16. April Wine #1
While in Ottawa, we heard April Wine would be playing a free concert on the Rideau Canal. Leanne and I first saw April Wine together about 15 years ago so thought it might be fun to go see them again. They still put on a pretty good show.
We got there a little late, but still before they went on. We had a tough time finding seats but did find a good place to watch from where we could stand and see them unobstructed. I have a decent ability to navigate my way through a crowd so left Leanne watching while I went up to get some photos. Navigating a crowd full of people with backpacks on is much harder than without them.
I did get up pretty close and was able to get some nice shots of the band. Unfortunately I was not in a position to catch Jerry Mercer on the drums...I love his solo's.

09. Self Portrait
While shooting with Dave on Saturday, we had pretty flat light. With not much interesting to shoot, I set myself up in front of the tripod and shot the most interesting subject I know. Me.
Processed this with an image viewer that I use (FastStone Image Viewer). It is a great viewer with a lot of function, though I am not sure if it was a result of the viewer or a poor original but this looks a little overexposed. I will reprocess it in my regular editor and compare the results.

11. Self Portrait ... Sorta
I had Leanne take this shot of me after the Police concert last Friday. After I set the camera up, shot her, and showed her how I wanted the image framed, all she needed to do was press the button.
Self portrait... Sorta.

03. Dave
Dave and I were out last week and I wanted to try some multi light portrait photography. We didn't end up shooting until the light was pretty well gone but Dave agreed to stand in for me again. I had one flash above, to camera right and slightly behind him for this shot and a second to camera left providing a little bit of fill.
Dave wasn't too impressed about me posting photos with the shirt he was wearing so he removed it. The side lighting provided pretty good definition for him as well.

09. Leanne
A quick portrait of Leanne. I shot this last weekend while we were camping. I used the sun and an off camera flash for light. Using the flash on a high power setting allowed me to overpower the existing ambient light and in turn darken the background.

09. Cyclist
This is another participant from last weekends triathlon. There was a 750m swim, 30 km bicycle ride and 5 km run. Also held that day was a duathlon with a 5 km run, 30 km bicycle ride and then another 5 km run.
As much as I like to exercise, I think this is a little much for me. I have never enjoyed running, though love to cycle.

This portrait of Dave was shot last week. While practicing my multi light setup on a rock, Dave was gracious enough to offer himself as a model and let me get a bunch of practice shots of him. we were at the Upper Niagara River where this photo of the Niagara Falls skyline was taken as the light was going down.

Also, I was awarded the Dorothy Sharpe Award for service to the club. This is the first posting I have done in few days. I will get back on schedule shortly.

Portraits are one of my toughest challenges. Technically, my skills are decent. However, posing and working with a model I find very difficult, I am sure it is the introvert in me.
This is Katie, one of two models I had a chance to photograph this morning. I was happy with the portrait in colour, but want to explore the world of black and white a little more closely. It may be part of the lull I have been feeling that I talked about yesterday.

When I was in Toronto on the weekend, I was walking along the north side of Front Street when I heard the sound of bagpipes. Looking around I saw this person, Kevin, playing the bagpipes. What struck me about Kevin was his age, hair, clothing and most importantly, his lip piercing. None of which seemed to fit in with a piper. I spoke with him briefly, learned a little bit about him, asked if I could took a few shots and continued on my way.

I have been struggling to master creating good black and white images in Photoshop. I was at the annual convention of the Niagara Frontier Regional Camera Clubs for which I am a member of through my membership in the Niagara Falls Camera Club.
I saw a presentation by Ellen Anon which clarified things for me. She also showed me an easier way to colour my black and white digital images.
Also at the convention were Andre Gallant, Tony Sweet and Gary and Joanie McGuffin who put on great show about their 3 month, 3000 KM canoe trip around the coasts of Lake Superior and Georgian Bay.
