16. April Wine #1
While in Ottawa, we heard April Wine would be playing a free concert on the Rideau Canal. Leanne and I first saw April Wine together about 15 years ago so thought it might be fun to go see them again. They still put on a pretty good show.
We got there a little late, but still before they went on. We had a tough time finding seats but did find a good place to watch from where we could stand and see them unobstructed. I have a decent ability to navigate my way through a crowd so left Leanne watching while I went up to get some photos. Navigating a crowd full of people with backpacks on is much harder than without them.
I did get up pretty close and was able to get some nice shots of the band. Unfortunately I was not in a position to catch Jerry Mercer on the drums...I love his solo's.

09. Self Portrait
While shooting with Dave on Saturday, we had pretty flat light. With not much interesting to shoot, I set myself up in front of the tripod and shot the most interesting subject I know. Me.
Processed this with an image viewer that I use (FastStone Image Viewer). It is a great viewer with a lot of function, though I am not sure if it was a result of the viewer or a poor original but this looks a little overexposed. I will reprocess it in my regular editor and compare the results.

Looking out into the windy lake on a cold winter's day.

11. Self Portrait ... Sorta
I had Leanne take this shot of me after the Police concert last Friday. After I set the camera up, shot her, and showed her how I wanted the image framed, all she needed to do was press the button.
Self portrait... Sorta.

09. Waiting for Something to Happen
September 3, 2007
Dave and I were out last week and I wanted to try some multi light portrait photography. We didn't end up shooting until the light was pretty well gone but Dave agreed to stand in for me again. I had one flash above, to camera right and slightly behind him for this shot and a second to camera left providing a little bit of fill.
Dave wasn't too impressed about me posting photos with the shirt he was wearing so he removed it. The side lighting provided pretty good definition for him as well.
Shot at Dufferin Islands in Niagara Falls.
August 9, 2007
A quick portrait of Leanne. I shot this last weekend while we were camping. I used the sun and an off camera flash for light. Using the flash on a high power setting allowed me to overpower the existing ambient light and in turn darken the background.

16. Put the Right Foot Forward
So far I have been married for one month. Apart from the honeymoon (where this photo was taken) it has been a busy month. I am still getting caught up on things from when I was away as well as the time leading up to the wedding. Almost there though.

This is another participant from last weekends triathlon. There was a 750m swim, 30 km bicycle ride and 5 km run. Also held that day was a duathlon with a 5 km run, 30 km bicycle ride and then another 5 km run.
As much as I like to exercise, I think this is a little much for me. I have never enjoyed running, though love to cycle.

May 6, 2007
This portrait of Dave was shot last week. While practicing my multi light setup on a rock, Dave was gracious enough to offer himself as a model and let me get a bunch of practice shots of him. we were at the Upper Niagara River where this photo of the Niagara Falls skyline was taken as the light was going down.

This is a photo for the first installment of the new Photo Hunt. The topic is Kink.

19. George and the Bicycle Kick
I have been playing soccer most of my life. Soccer is played and watched the world over. I took this photo of George yesterday at my final playoff game for the winter season. Won't be long before we are playing outside again.

27. This is Me
Another self portrait of myself.

26. Breaking Out
I have been away at the NFRCC annual convention for the past couple of days. While there, two of the four prints I had in for competition received honourable mentions. Also, I was awarded the Dorothy Sharpe Award for service to the club. This is the first posting I have done in few days. I will get back on schedule shortly.
This of course is a self portrait as well.

November 10, 2006
Dave and I were out last night shooting in downtown St. Catharines. It wasn't going very well so I asked him to pose (much to his disliking!) This is that portrait.

A portrait of Leanne.

18. Row Row Row Your Boat...
The weather has been less than ideal the past few days, so here is a shot to remind people of the summer.

30. Self Portrait
I haven't done much shooting in the past few weeks. When that happens, I look at my most willing subject... me.

26. Not Your Ordinary Portrait
Ha ha, this is definately not your normal portrait! This is the same dragonfly that I posted yesterday, only this time I shot the front of him. I definately like yesterday's shot of his back better than this one though.
April 10, 2006
I was in Toronto last week near Yonge and Gerrard when I saw Jerry playing his guitar. Leanne and I stopped and listened for a little while, then I asked him if I could photograph him. We talked for a little while then Leanne and I continued on our way.

02. Photographing Niagara Falls
I shot Dave, who was shooting Niagara Falls last week. He hates it when I do this.
So, why not review some of my other Dave shots!
March 19, 2006
An older portrait of Leanne.

23. Night Light
This is similiar to yesterday's shot. For lighting I have the brightness on the screen turned way up (blue) and the orange in the image comes from the incandescent bulbs turned way down.
February 22, 2006
22. At the Computer
Lighting in this self portrait (again, I am always available to model for myself!) was supplied by the computer screen.

04. Self Portrait #6
I don't really want to complain about the weather, it's been fairly warm so my heating bills should be down, my time spent shovelling has been almost non-existant, but I have not been able to get any decent winter shots.
This is yours truly.
December 27, 2005
This is a photo of my brother James taken at our family Christmas party. I have converted the original colour photo to a Sepia toned image.
I have updated this image. It was originally processed on a different computer whose monitor was not colour calibrated and with software I wasn't fully familiar with. I didn't like it once I saw it on a better monitor. The original can be found here
December 26, 2005
This photo of my niece is a little out of focus, but I love the lighting on it.

22. Self Portrait in a Christmas Ball
This is a self portrait taken looking in a Christmas Ball. I shot it last January at the Niagara Falls Aviary.
December 15, 2005
15. Self Portraits in a Portrait
This is a shot taken during a much warmer time, this summer. Leanne and I took a trip on the Niagara Helicopters. This was shot there.
December 7, 2005
Portrait of Leanne.
Things have been pretty busy around here, mostly getting ready for Christmas. I have a few things I'd like to shoot, I just hope I can find time in the next day or so.
November 26, 2005
A portrait of Leanne. She loves being an exhibition for me!

23. Amanda in Black and White
Another portrait of Amanda.
November 13, 2005
I think this is my favourite shot of Meredith I have posted so far.

10. Self Portrait #4
I had some portraits to do for homework this week... I am always an available model for myself. I really need to get a decent background.
November 9, 2005
09. Couple on Bicycle
I shot this couple on a bicycle this summer. It was the only shot I was able to get of them.
October 24, 2005
24. Wide Angle Portait
Another shot from last Saturday. I am working on a gallery of those images, hopefully up within the next couple of days. Busy busy busy...
October 22, 2005
I definitely like this shot better than my previous one.
October 21, 2005
21. Katie (again)
This is Katie again who I I featured earlier in the month. I am not sure which portrait I like better...
Any thoughts on this?
October 20, 2005
Like Amanda, Brittany was very energetic about posing for us on the weekend, and though she said she has never modelled before, seemed to have it down very well. I will hopefully have a collection from the shoot on my Gallery later in the week.
October 19, 2005
This is Amanda, another model who graciously gave up her time and volunteered to be photographed early last Saturday morning and is eager to do it again. I have at least one more I will post in the coming days, and possible more in the future.
October 9, 2005
Another portrait from my session yesterday.
October 8, 2005
Portraits are one of my toughest challenges. Technically, my skills are decent. However, posing and working with a model I find very difficult, I am sure it is the introvert in me.
This is Katie, one of two models I had a chance to photograph this morning. I was happy with the portrait in colour, but want to explore the world of black and white a little more closely. It may be part of the lull I have been feeling that I talked about yesterday.
October 6, 2005
When I was in Toronto on the weekend, I was walking along the north side of Front Street when I heard the sound of bagpipes. Looking around I saw this person, Kevin, playing the bagpipes. What struck me about Kevin was his age, hair, clothing and most importantly, his lip piercing. None of which seemed to fit in with a piper. I spoke with him briefly, learned a little bit about him, asked if I could took a few shots and continued on my way.

03. Winged Silhouette
I have been reluctant to post this one, though I really like it. I have had nothing but good comments from those that have seen it. I just wish I hadn't cut off the bottom of the wing.

05. Sloan in Concert
Leanne and I went to the Friendship Festival in Fort Erie on Sunday night to watch Sloan. I squirmed my way up to the front for a few shots including this one of Sloan drummer Andrew Scott. Thanks to all who let me pass, except for the one lady who told me she was watching her kids, but seemed to be spending a lot more time watching the band, dancing and getting in my way than watching her kids. A little pleasantry goes a long way.

May 27, 2005
I went to watch my niece play her first soccer game this week. While I was there, I was able to grab some nice images of her sister at play.

April 16, 2005
This portrait of Nicole was done on the heels of a session with my nieces. I still had some time left and wanted to play around with a more co-operative model.

12. Leanne in B&W
I have been struggling to master creating good black and white images in Photoshop. I was at the annual convention of the Niagara Frontier Regional Camera Clubs for which I am a member of through my membership in the Niagara Falls Camera Club.
I saw a presentation by Ellen Anon which clarified things for me. She also showed me an easier way to colour my black and white digital images.
April 3, 2005
This was shot in my studio while playing around with some lighting. I wasn't happy with what I was seeing on the camera screen but still wanted to see what I could make of the images. I am happy with the results.
March 13, 2005
This was shot at the same time I was shooting my last two posts. This shot of Leanne was only a test so I could set my exposure and make sure the camera was in focus before turning it on myself but it turned out better than expected for a test shot.
March 12, 2005
12. Self Portrait #3
Another self portrait as I indulge in a little narcissism. I think I will shoot a few more tomorrow. Then, on to a new subject.
March 11, 2005
11. Self Portrait #2
Keeping up with my self portrait exercise...
I have converted this to a duotone because I wasn't sure if I like the colour in it. A straight Black and White was also not quite striking enough for my taste's.
Those who have known me for a long time may remember this pose. I have a similiar shot from 10 or 11 years ago which I think was a stronger image.

10. Self Portrait
Self Portrait. I think I may do a series of these. Satisfy the vanity in me.

03. White Bird
This is another shot taken at the Niagara Falls Aviary on the weekend. I played around with modifying the color space (now greyscale). Not sure if I like it as it is, it might be a little too warm.

01. Silver Cheeked Hornbill
This Silver Cheeked Hornbill was shot at the Niagara Falls Aviary.
