I originally posted this many years ago (in 2005) and looking at it now I could make it better.   I reprocessed it, darkening some slightly out of focus leaves and fixing a few others, while of course, making a better monochrome image.

I am much more please with this version.

Fireworks over Niagara Falls

A few of us from the Niagara Falls Camera Club decided to brave the throngs of tourists on a Sunday evening in July and this is one of the products of that outing.

Shooting fireworks like this is relatively easy. Set the camera on a tripod, compose your image and manually focus on infinity. Using your Bulb (B) setting, f8, ISO 100, hold the shutter open for as long as you want (a cable release works best for this). This is trial and error of course but the bursts happen randomly and are of different brightnesses. This one was 4 seconds, but I have others at 1 second and others yet at 15 seconds.

Sunset on Pog

This summer Leanne and I went camping in Algonquin Park. My family took me there many times when I was young and have always enjoyed it so I wanted to share that with Leanne. We had some rain but overall decent weather. Did some hiking, checked out the art gallery and the park museum and store. Leanne picked up badges for each of the hikes we did for her camp blanket. Each night we would walk down to the beach and watch the sunset (well, she’d watch, I’d shoot). I was disappointed in the sunset but I can’t control the weather! This one was nice in that I got the group of ducks in there.

The Tiny Ram's Head Lady Slipper

The is the second of two Ram’s Head Lady Slippers I am posting. We were lucky that these were growing under a tree near the trail where we were able to access them without disturbing the environment they were growing in. How small is small? Take a look at this.

Family celebrating New Years Day

So here we are, another new post. New Years day and there are photographers around the world starting Photo Of the Day projects. Having already done that, starting February 2005 and lasting more than two full years, I am not sure if I will try that once again. I have a few options in mind though I am not sure what I will do yet.

This photo was shot tonight and features members of my family along with myself. Hopefully the photo does mark the beginning of a new project.

One thing I do hope to do is include more shot setup info. Here it is.

Dragon Fly on Birdsfoot Trefoil

This is a dragon fly resting on a piece of Birdsfoot Trefoil.  Photographed early in the morning, the dragonfly and flower are still covered in dew.  It is hard to see in this size, but I am picking up reflections of the sky in the dew drops.

This photo was obviously not shot recently :)    I will be mixing recent photos along with photos from last year that did not get post, though should have during my bouts of non posting. Feel free to comment on some of the photos.

Resting

Scott found this Fritillary one morning late last summer while out shooting.  With it’s wings closed we could see he was a little beaten up. It wasn’t until he had warmed up enough to spread his wings that I saw just how bad he really was.

The second butterfly Scott found was in much better shape.
