26. Breaking Out
I have been away at the NFRCC annual convention for the past couple of days. While there, two of the four prints I had in for competition received honourable mentions. Also, I was awarded the Dorothy Sharpe Award for service to the club. This is the first posting I have done in few days. I will get back on schedule shortly.
This of course is a self portrait as well.

20. Skippers
Another Out of Bounds image. The photo is of two skippers I shot last year. I entered this into competition on Monday night and received a score of 14 out of a possible 15 for the photo. That is a Diamond award in the club.

19. Gerbera
The past few photos were shot in my living room using either window light through sheer curtains or as the sun dropped, a small light box for illumination. I used my 24 x 36 diffuser with the light box for a soft light and colour balanced my white balanced setting to the flourescent tubes.
On the other side of the flower I used a 22" reflector, rotating between silver or soft gold to add some light back into the dark side of the flower.
This photo of a Gerbera was a long 30 second exposure using the lightbox for a light source, f 25 for maximum depth of field and ISO 100 for the least amount of noise.

One of the most common ways to photograph a rose. Probably with good reason.

15. The Far North
Well not really, only Port Colborne, which is south of Niagara Falls. The conditions on Sunday sure made this feel like the far north though and given how this photo looks, might even be able to pass for it.

13. A Cold Winter's Morning
Another photo of the frozen Lake Erie. Some of the ice built up here was close to 5 feet thick by my estimates.

10. Niagara SkyWheel
The Niagara SkyWheel ferris wheel. This is a night photograph of the 183' ferris wheel on Clifton Hill in NIagara Falls. A long exposure and good timing gave this photo a nice effect of motion as the Skywheel came to a stop.

06. Shadow On Snow
The past few days have brought some welcome sunlight and for many, some unwelcome cold temperatures. I believe the temperature went down to -17 C (1 F). As an aside, I won the recent weekly competition with my ongoing photo competition with Dave over at Jorg.org Photo Hunt. My image Aww Nuts was chosen last week as the winner so I am now leading the competition.

04. Snow and Grasses
This photograph was shot on a cold morning. Although dressed warm, the chill still cuts through all the layers of clothing.
For this photo, I was lying on the ground with my face almost in the snow to get this particular perspective.
Happy Birthday Leanne!

02. All 730 Images (well, close)
This is a composite of almost all of the 730 images posted prior to yesterday's two year anniversary. I used Picasa for this one and it did not like two of the panorama's I did back in 2005 so they have been omitted.
A larger version may be viewed here.
Tomorrow I return to posting new photos.

01. 730 Days, 730 Images
Today marks two years since I first started posting my images here. 730 days, 730 images. Some times the images came easy, others not so easy. The initial reason for the site was to provide further incentive for me to get out and shoot.
This image, one of my self portraits, is a composite image made up of all of the 730 images I have posted over the past two years. This particular image is based upon Self Portrait #6. A larger version of the composite can be viewed here.
Some stats for the past two years worth of images:
730 Images
441 Comments
107 Black and White Images
97 Macro entries
61 Photos of the Niagara Falls Area
55 Portraits
107 Photos categorized as Scenery
217 Nature photos which include:
43 Flowers
55 Insects
18 Butterflies
4 Damselflies
11 Dragonflies
20 Misc. Insects
On top of that, I have had a little over 60,000 unique visitors to the site from 121 different countries with 1,681,853 hits and 94.84 GB of traffic.
I have also started writing a weekly digital photography tip. I now have 69 tips online (http://potd.chrisempey.com/tips)
Today's image was produced with AndreaMosaic.
