30. Stream at Duff

20050630.jpg

Leanne and I were at Dufferin Islands on the weekend, a nature area just up river from Niagara Falls. It is always a little amazing when I see an area like this so close to a developed area like the tourist district in Niagara Falls. There are streams similiar to this running throught the islands, plus a small river with a few water falls. They have done much work in the past few years to naturalize the area, adding bird feeding stations and bird boxes, introducing fish into the waters (with a catch and release program as well) and planting indigenous vegetation in the park.

29. Peeking Through

20050629.jpg

I took this shot not long after a burst of rain passed through the area this weekend. Leanne and I were lucky, we were out when it happened, but the storm passed over us.

27. PT Cruisers

20050627.jpg

This weekend was the last Cruise The Falls PT Cruiser gathering in Niagara Falls. Held where I work at the Comfort Inn on Clifton Hill, there were 500 or more of the cruisers on property. A lot of them were customized in some sort, from fender flares, after market grilles, custom paint jobs and even suicide doors. The event has been a huge success, raising more than $80,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the past five years.

Leanne and I went down to look at the cruisers as she really likes them. While there, it gave me a start on another pet project I will be doing... Stay tuned for that one.

26. Early Morning Flight

20050626.jpg

This is one of seven shots I took while out this morning (about 6:20) in Port Colborne. I was actually focussed on another shot when the gull flew in front of my lens. I followed it and this is what I captured.

24. Fallsview Casino and Resort

20050624.jpg

Dave and I were out tonight shooting around the new Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort. Dave spent two years as part of the crew building the casino so he was pretty excited to be shooting it. I took quite a few shots... this was my very last one. I haven't even looked at my other card yet to see what else I have got, though what I saw in the viewfinder seemed promising. I may package some of them together in a small gallery.

23. When Horses Fly

20050623.jpg

I entered a similiar shot for this week's PhotoFriday challenge, Sport. I needed a photo to post for today (going shooting tonight) and thought about posting a race horse from one of my first outings with the new camera last year.

I have some other shots I posted on my gallery last year posted here.

22. Hiding Cattails

20050622.jpg

This is another shot taken from the same wetland as the previous two days' photos. Mud Lake is a man made conservation area. Used to drain the Wainfleet wetlands to make the are inhabitable, it features a lake, wooded areas, trails and is a great place for bird watching.

While there on Sunday, Dave and I passed by the shore and startled a Great Blue Heron that had been in the reeds. It flew off with a large fish in it's mouth. To fast for us to grab our camera's but enough for us to enjoy it's flight.

This is also the location I shot my first Damselfly.

I wanted to catch the different colours of the grasses in this photo; the various greens browns and yellows. I have a few without the background visible, though I am torn on what I prefer more.

20. Daisy

20050620.jpg

When I was out at Mud Lake with Dave yesterday, I did not find what I was looking for, so I was left to shoot some abstractions, pattern shots and this daisy. Wildflowers are usually not pristine and as such, often have spots on them, pollen littering their petals or even broken petals. All in all, this was was fairly nice.

19. Washed Up Log

20050619.jpg

I went out this morning with an old friend of mine who has recently gotten back into photography. I took him to a few of the places I have been going recently (missed a good day yesterday, but today was not so hot) and we took a few good shots. I am hoping to get out with him more often as well.

This was something he found. I thought it was a good candidate for a black and white shot.

18. Golden Grasses

20050618.jpg

I had every intention on shooting today, and even had a few things that I thought we make good subjects. But, as it turns out, I never even brought my camera out (though I had it with me). I am out in the morning again and hopefully will have better luck than I have been having the past few Sunday's.

This photo was shot last year, at sunset, at the School of Horticulture in Niagara Falls. The same place shot from earlier this week were taken.

This is a photo montage inspired by the works of Andre Gallant. This is a composite of 3 images in 7 layers. If you don't know what that means, then just enjoy the image. If you do, then don't anaylze it...

20050612.jpg

I went out this morning looking for some more damselflies. We found many, but the conditions were not good for shooting them. We did find a few of these flowers that we shot, and also some daisies (rather common, but nice none the less).

Leanne and I went to the Chippawa Lions Carnival tonight. There we had a few burgers, purchased some raffle tickets and watched the rides for a bit. I was hoping to get something along the lines of the picture of the carousel I shot last year at another carnival. This is what I came up with.

20050609.jpg

This week has been a pretty long one, I have being doing a lot of work at my parents house. Getting home so late, I really have not had a chance to shoot anything.

So... this was shot last summer during Construction Season in Toronto. I was going for a high contrast look, similiar to Kodak Technical Pan film can give.

20050602.jpg

It is late and I have nothing really exciting to post, so I am putting up this image I shot yesterday when some co-workers and I played a round of mini golf at the new Cosmic Golf on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, where I work. The image is not really that spectacular though it does have some really great colour!

UPDATE: See, I told you it was late. As I was close to falling asleep in my chair, I managed to post this as a draft... Fixed now.

I was looking for a photo to enter for World Photo Day. This was it. I shot it tonight (as per the requirements for WPD, a photo shot today). I enjoyed shooting these, but need more practice. That ball comes pretty quick across the plate.
