This is not quite the look I was going for with this shot. It is something I will have to try again.

This creation started this poor picture. Shows something can always be found, you just have to look for it.

A daffodil from a few days ago... before the rain started! April showers so they say.

23. Bud

20050423.jpg

Today is the first day of my vacation, and I woke up early hoping to get a good start on it. Get in some nice photography. Instead, it's raining. And the forecast is the same until at least Wednesday. Either way, I still need to shoot, so I will just have to protect the camera.

This is a bud from a tree growing in front of my house. I don't know what kind of tree just that is will probably be obscuring much of my front porch as soon as it is in full foliage.

22. Algonquin Visitors Center

20050422.jpg

This was shot at the Algonquin Provincial Park Visitors Center several years ago using my old Pentax camera and my 21 mm lens. I have posted it to my Gallery in the past, but I really like the fading perspective and the depth of field this lens provides.

21. Pegs

20050421.jpg

This is another shot from a long time ago. This time, instead of using my wide angle lens, I am pretty sure that I used my 100mm 1.8 for this shot. While I like the long depth of field created by the wide lens, I also like the short FOG created by the longer lenses. Again, this one is a 2.8 lens, probably shot in around 2.8.

20. Empire Sandy

20050420.jpg

This is an older shot of mine as I spent most of last night trying to fix someone's computer.

This is one reason why I am still holding on to my old Pentax screw mount system. I have some very nice lenses including the 21mm 1.8 used for this shot. An equivalent lens for my 10D will probably run me about $1500. I'll stick to the Pentax for some things.

This is the Empire Sandy

19. Red

20050419.jpg

This shot, while it looks like it might me a fishing shanty, is really a store front in Niagara Falls. Graham and I were out walking today and he pointed out the shot. I had to move around a bit to get the right angle, but here it is.

18. Niagara Falls

20050418.jpg

Leanne and I went for a quick walk down to Niagara Falls the other day, mostly so I could take this photo. I was lucky and got yesterday's photo as well. This is another panorama. Again, I have a larger version of the image that has more detail than this one sized to fit within the confines of the site design.

UPDATE: It turns out the Java panorama viewer I used for this does not work in Internet Explorer. If you get just a blank page, you can view the image here.

14. Out for a ride

20050414.jpg

Another DOF shot from Brick City yesterday. This was shot at ISO 1600 on the 10D which accounts for the graininess of the image. I am really not that happy with this image. I am not sure how sharp my older lenses are on the digital camera.

I may have one more of these to post before I get back to shooting some real things!

13. AC/DC Live In... LEGO?

20050413.jpg

This was shot across the street from where I work in a display of LEGO scenes featuring 1/2 million Lego bricks. This is Brian Johnson with Angus Young in the background from AC/DC. Also featured were the Space Shuttle, Taj Mahal, CN Tower, Niagara Falls and other world famous landmarks.

12. Leanne in B&W

20050412.jpg

I have been struggling to master creating good black and white images in Photoshop. I was at the annual convention of the Niagara Frontier Regional Camera Clubs for which I am a member of through my membership in the Niagara Falls Camera Club.

I saw a presentation by Ellen Anon which clarified things for me. She also showed me an easier way to colour my black and white digital images.

Also at the convention were Andre Gallant, Tony Sweet and Gary and Joanie McGuffin who put on great show about their 3 month, 3000 KM canoe trip around the coasts of Lake Superior and Georgian Bay.

09. Splash

20050409.jpg

After shooting a few of these I noticed that I wasn't getting enough light; uneven shadows and not enough depth of field. I added a second flash and changed what I was dropping the milk into and I was able to get this image.

This is the second shot in my milk drop series. The first was yesterday and tomorrow will be the last (for now) I would like to try this again using different liquids, different items to drop the liquid into and different camera angles.

04. Fork

20050404.jpg

This was a macro shot of...you guessed it, a fork. I like the way the fork fades out of focus even though I used a pretty small (f18) aperature. My shots wide open (f3.5 for this lens) allowed only the very tips of the tines to be in focus.
