21. Decay #10

20061221.jpg

So, I think that I have posted all that I can of this decayed, abanonded farm house. That is not to say I won't shoot there again, there are many more photographs to capture. I will just take a break from posting them.

All your photography is beautiful, but I was particularly touched by your photos of the abandoned farmhouse. I remember back in the late 60's when my then-boyfriend/fiance/husband and I would drive around backroads of southern Iowa and northern Missouri and explore the many abandoned farms and their storm cellars.

As with your abandoned farm house and the ones we explored, there were many reminders left of life that once abounded there: bits of broken-down appliances and furniture, shards of china and rusted-out pots and pans, broken dolls and rusty, once-red wagons. But the photo that most touched me was of the one of your abandoned farmhouse that still had the frayed remains of curtains at a dirty window. The wallpaper was still colorful and lively. Whatever caused this home to be so suddenly abandoned that not even the curtains were removed?

Where are the children who grew up in these homes, who played around them, and performed daily farm chores harder than any modern-day child would ever imagine?

Empty homes always tug at my hear. Thanks for sharing your photos with the rest of the not-so-photographically-gifted world.

Blessings.
