Breaking Through

The sun breaks through the clouds shortly after sunrise one a cold winter morning over Lake Erie. This was shot only about 90 seconds after yesterday’s photo from the same location, though the focal length changed.

Sunrise over Lake Erie Drifts

Lake Erie reflects the rising sun on an early winter morning as snow drifts reflect the cold, blue, winter sky.

A quick freeze caused the still water of Lake Erie to freeze forming these large ice crystals.

A quick freeze caused the still water of Lake Erie to freeze forming these large ice crystals. I’ve converted the photo to black and white to help emphasize the graphic quality of this shot.

Morning Rays

This photo, shot on the same day as the previous three photo, seemingly shows rays of light streaming from the clouds. I did this using a long exposure and zooming the lens at the end of the exposure without adjusting focus. I do not remember if I zoomed in or out. I also used this technique on a previous photo (http://potd.chrisempey.com/2008/06/20/20-zoom-zoom/).

Photos shot the same day:

A New Dawn

The sun peaks over the horizon on a late December morning. Photographed over Lake Erie, this picture shows the sun just rising over the horizon and being reflected in the water on a beach near Fort Erie.

Sunrise over Buffalo

The sun has not yet risen over the clouds in this early morning photograph. One of the first snowfalls of the season where we could take some decent photos with the snow but the light, while nice for a short period, did only last a short period.

On a side note, I have been putting together a calendar of my photos for friends and family for several years. This year I have decided to put it online for others to enjoy as well. The calendar may be purchased for $18.00 at http://www.lulu.com/content/4998007.
