Another shot similiar to yesterday’s, this photo is a different composition. I like this one better though.
08. Poppies Looking into the Sun
by Chris on Jul.08, 2008, under Flowers, Nature, Scenery

This is a bit of a landmark image for me, photo #1000. I started this photo blog on February 1st, 2005 (after having previously displayed my images on another one of my sites for several years) with a photo of a Silver Cheeked Hornbill and posted daily up until a little bit before my wedding last year when other priorities became more important. I continued to post regularly, though not daily up until March of this year when because of hosting problems with my web provider, I became too frustrated and stopped posting until June 1 when I resumed daily posting.
Today’s photo, shot on my recent trip to the Bruce Peninsula with Scott is of poppies growing wild along the roadside. I am sure they had been part of a garden at one time, but the area appears to be overgrown now.
I hope to continue daily posting. It does get tiring at times, and sometimes I need a little inspiration to put up a new photo. I can’t say I will make another 1000 photos but I will give it a shot. The important thing is not to stop. After a while, it almost becomes an addiction.
I haven’t done a good job up so far of advertising it, but many of my images here are available for sale but I hope to have that rectified shortly.
07. Dee Cernile
by Chris on Jul.07, 2008, under Black and White, Portraits

Leanne, my brother James, and I went to Arizona’s Taps and Grill on the weekend to see Sven Gali play live. We’ve been fans of the band since the late 80′s when they started playing local clubs. I first saw them close to 20 years ago when they were playing a local cultural center, long before I was old enough to get into the clubs. The band had split up for some time in late 90′s and reunited last year for one show. This summer they are back playing at least three shows.
Like my recent previous concert shots, this photo of Dee Cernile was shot with the Canon G9. The camera has been great so far. A little noisy in low light situations like this (especially above ISO 400) but still usable. Converted to black and white, great looks. I like the tradional concert photo look of this one.
06. Dramatic Sunset at Oliphant
by Chris on Jul.06, 2008, under Nature, Scenery

We shot most of our sunsets sunsets at Oliphant, not far from where we were staying. Some were very nice, others a little more plain. This one was one of the more dramatic sunsets of our recent trip. I like the S-Curve leading out to the lake.
05. Twins
by Chris on Jul.05, 2008, under Flowers, Macro, Nature

A pair of Yellow Lady Slipper orchids sit nestled in a wooded area.
Like yesterdays, I like the blue in this photos. I think that it compliments the yellow of the orchids.
04. Slippers
by Chris on Jul.04, 2008, under Flowers, Macro, Nature

Another photograph of two Yellow Lady Slipper orchids I photographed a couple weeks ago on the Bruce Peninsula. I don’t remember what was behind to give it the blue tint to the shadows but I do like the results.

30. Fish
by Chris on Jun.30, 2008, under Portraits

Leanne and I were in Toronto last night to see Fish in concert live at the Mod Club. Previously the lead singer of Marillion, I have been a fan of Fish and Marillion since I was about 12. I missed him last time he was here, about 10 years ago, so would not miss him this time. We worked our way to the front of the stage where I was able to get in a few good photos of him.
29. Gord Lewis
by Chris on Jun.29, 2008, under Portraits

Taking a break today to post some concert photos. My friend Julie and I went to the Friendship Festival in Fort Erie and watched The Spoons, Helix and Teenage Head play. This is a photo of Teenage Head guitarist Gord Lewis.
Tonight I will be in Toronto to see Fish so hopefully will have some shots from that show to put up as well.
28. Rocks Along The Beach
by Chris on Jun.28, 2008, under Black and White, Nature, Scenery

Rocks along the beach on Georgian Bay. This was shot with my new Canon G9 that Leanne gave to me for our anniversary! I had been looking at them for a while as I wanted a good camera I can carry around with me without always having to take my SLR and assortment of lenses. The G9 has full capability, a Canon Digic III sensor and will sync to my existing Canon flashes if I need it too. In the words of Monty Burns… Excellent!
27. Hoggs Falls
by Chris on Jun.27, 2008, under Nature, Scenery

A slow shutter photo of Hoggs Falls. This was shot at ISO 100, 1 sec exposure and f22 with the use of a polarizer. The polarizer was partially to reduce the glare on the water but mostly because I could use it slow the water down one and a half to two stops (the difference between 1 sec and 1/4 second exposure).
26. Hoggs Falls, Upstream
by Chris on Jun.26, 2008, under Nature, Scenery

This is just upstream of Hoggs Falls. One of the water falls we stopped at on the way up north.
25. Watching The Sunset
by Chris on Jun.25, 2008, under Scenery

I shot this group of three people on the end of the peer across from the cottage I was staying at on my recent trip to the Bruce Peninsula. There was a thunderstorm approaching from the south and the rest of the sky was lit up in this amazing wash of red. I thought the placement of the people against the dramatic sky would yield a nice photograph. We did not get to shoot too much longer as the rain came and we hurried into the cottage.
24. Badlands
by Chris on Jun.24, 2008, under Nature, Scenery

I spent a few days on the Bruce Peninsula last week photographing wild orchids, sunsets and other nice things. On the way up, Scott and I stop at a couple of waterfalls along the way and this spot, the Caledon (or Cheltenham) Badlands.
Over the next little while I expect to post images from that trip. Photos of Yellow Lady Slippers, Grass Pink Orchids, Showy Lady Slippers, sunsets, and waterfalls. Maybe a self portrait as well!
23. Egret
by Chris on Jun.23, 2008, under Nature

Earlier this spring, Leanne and I took a vacation in the Dominican Republic. I did a little bit of photography while there including this photo of a Great Egret perched on a tree.
22. Tulips and Bench
by Chris on Jun.22, 2008, under Scenery

I like the composition of this photograph and hope that I can use in one of my weddings or portrait sessions.

A wild geranium photographed along a roadside earlier this spring.
20. Zoom Zoom
by Chris on Jun.20, 2008, under Niagara Falls

This is a photo of a hanging basket taken at the Niagara Falls Camera Club outing this past week, where several of my images of the Niagara Skywheel were taken along with yesterday’s self portrait. This is a gimicky technique of using a long shutter speed and zooming the lens during the exposure. I think it works well for this photo as the Tivoli lights are obviously showing the zoom but many of the other objects still seem to be stationary.
19. Self Portrait

Self Portrait of myself in the courtyard plaza on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls
18. Niagara Skywheel #2
by Chris on Jun.18, 2008, under Niagara Falls

This is another view of the Niagara Skywheel ferris wheel located on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls.
17. Niagara Skywheel
by Chris on Jun.17, 2008, under Niagara Falls

This is a photo of the Niagara Skywheel in Niagara Falls, Canada. I shot this last week on an outing with the Niagara Falls Camera Club to Clifton Hill. The Ferris wheel is 183′ tall but with the help of a 10mm lens I was able to get most of the wheel in very close without too many obstructions.

14. A Foggy Morning
by Chris on Jun.14, 2008, under Nature, Scenery

This is another photo from the same location as yesterday’s.
13. Reeds in the Fog
by Chris on Jun.13, 2008, under Nature, Scenery

Reeds in the fog at one of our favourite locations. We do not always shoot here, but the area has a nice ‘feel’ about.
12. Rockway
by Chris on Jun.12, 2008, under Nature, Scenery

f16 2.5 sec
This was shot a little while ago just outside of St. Catharines, Ontario. Shooting early in the morning when the light levels are still low let me capture this with a long shutter speed to exaggerate the motion of the water.
11. The Long Road
by Chris on Jun.11, 2008, under Scenery

Shot the past weekend. I like how the road disappears into the image.
10. Raindrops
by Chris on Jun.10, 2008, under Flowers, Macro, Nature

Raindrops on a tulip. Again, shot with a 100mm or 135mm lens and a set of extension tubes.
